I am, sort of anyway. Not obsessed about it and I've only beaten it once, but I do own it and have played it through. I remember getting stuck on disc I for almost a year (I don't remember what part) but then when I finally got past it I zipped through the rest of the game in no time. Kia is our resident Xeno expert. Unless you two want to duke it out.

So here's a question I always wondered. I never played them, so I'll ask you. Is the Xenosaga series a prequel to Xenogears? Or are they two completely different timelines? I mean, does the background in Xenogears collaborate with Xenosaga?

It is... but it's also not a prequel. Well, it is a prequel to an "alternative version". It sounds more confusing than it should be. Square didn't want any more Xeno games, they wanted more Final Fantasy (good job? I'm freaking sick of Final Fantasy, screw YOU SQUARE) so the team left to form their own company and that's why Xenosaga is somewhat "unrelated" but actually, it is related to Xenogears with so many cameos that they decided to toss in Xenosaga 3. *twitches from the super secret boss that hurts so MUCH.*

Yeah, they're not directly related. The creator wanted a newer way of telling his story (hence why there are so many things similar.) They aren't sequels to Xenogears, they are only a re-telling of the same concept. Of course we'll never know exactly how close in similarity because of stupid Namco for trashing the series.
If you understand Japanese you would be able to find Perfect Works (Actually there are some translated PW at Gamefaqs, but I don't really know how reliable they are.) Perfect Works is the entirety of the Xenogears series, the whole timeline, design and story concepts for the world of Xenogears. I've see a timeline comparison between XG and XS and they are close, but then XS gets way off the mark once it gets further into the story.
Still we know for a fact that they aren't prequels/sequels to XG. They are only directly related when it comes to the dev team, and of course some names and designs.

I have my own shiny copy of PW. *rubs it, cackling manaically*
Granted, the 65 bucks was worth it. >.> *twitches* Iyou's better with translating than I am, however. @_@ I'm just really good at finding artbooks/comic books that are supposedly rare.

I'd put that thing in it's own protective casing if I had a copy. I've still yet to see an actual copy of it, all I've seen are scans of it, but it sure does look awesome. I wish I could read Japanese, and then I'd find all of the scans and read it, but alas I'm to lazy.

It was sheer fluke that I found it through animebooks.com with thanks to a friend. Unfortunately, it disappeared from the site shortly.
