I've recently gotten back into this great anime: Tekkaman Blade I. Awhile back it was dubbed over here as "Teknoman" but I don't even count that. They changed so many things (edited the episodes, spliced some episodes, changed names, changed plots(!), etc) and only aired the first 20-something episodes (out of 49). Don't be confused with Tekkaman Blade II, which was released here in the states (on DVD I believe); that's an entirely different story. But if you can, check out the original Tekkaman Blade.
Description: In "Unified Earth - Year 192" humanity is on the verge of extinction. The giant orbiting base, the Orbital Ring, which fulfilled mankind's dreams (of space travel) has been occupied by an unknown alien species called Radam. Humanity is now confined to Earth and major cities are now being attacked and destroyed via the station's lasers. It seems hopeless....until one day, a fireball crashes into the Earth. Upon further inspection, by a few members of the Space Knights, the fireball turns out to be a human male. They take him back to their base where he wakes up quite angry. The man, who claims he has lost his memory and has been nicknamed "Dangerous Boy" (D-Boy) by one of the Space Knights members, reveals the names of the aliens (until he showed up they didn't know it) and hijacks a ship to get back into space. Once in space they find out he has the ability to transform into a Tekkaman, a powerful warrior who has the ability to destroy the Radam aliens. Now, with his help, the Earth may have a fighting chance.
That's a pretty basic description. There's a lot more to this anime, and it focuses a lot on the characters, especially D-Boy. It's a great series though. Be forewarned, it's pretty old (1994 I think) so the animation is a little behind in today's standards, and they (like a lot of older animes) like to re-use scenes a lot. Still, don't let that stop you from at least checking it out.
