Well, it looks like our old topic for this got erased somehow ( ) so I'll recreate it. Let's discuss video game music! What games did you feel had the best music? What games had the most memorable music? Which games had the worst sound tracks you've ever heard before in your life? Also feel free to discuss remixes (OC remixes or other). I'll start off by saying that the Zelda and SMB themes are probably the most recognizable themes in the world. Zelda also has some great music (village theme, some dungeons, etc). Friday the 13th, for NES, had a very catchy tune although it quickly gets annoying. And of course, let's not forget all of the songs in the Final Fantasy series. If I had to guess, I'd say FF6 had some of the best game music, ever. Some of those themes are just plain awesome.

I agree about FF6 having some of the best music ever. >.> It's true, the game was awesome, and the music was just as awesome. I also liked a lot of the music Squaresoft has done in their games. Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG had awesome soundtracks because of this. As far as non-Square stuff, I think Earthbound and Golden Sun also had awesome music. I also love the music of the Kirby games, who can forget those? Most of the Super Mario games have very memorable music as well, as well as the Zelda games. Oh, and Blaster Master too. And we can't forget the Metroid series, or the Mega Man games, all of them. Although I loved MM2's music over all of them, and MMX1 would probably be a close second for the MM games. MMBN1 had an awesome opening theme. >.> The Pokémon games also have pretty good music to them. Oh, and the Sonic the Hedgehog games! Those have very good music to them. And because I have it on my cell phone, if you haven't played through enough of Fire Emblem on the GBA (the first FE game, that is) to hear Ninian's theme, you must, because it's an awesome theme.

Illusion of Time (Illusion of Gaia) had some great music as well. The rest of the things I was about to mention kinda got stolen by CBX. The Metal Gear Solid games have some pretty nice music, too.

You know, if you really like video game musics, just go to www.gamingfm.com and start listening to any of the streams. I'd reccomend Complete Selection, as that includes arranges and stuff. If you register an account, you can even request songs.

Thread Necro up in the heezy...
There was this NES game called Bucky 'o Hare, produced by Konami. It was a pretty solid platformer, with a kickin' soundtrack.
Gundam Wing Endless Duel for the SNES possessed a high calibur soundtrack, featuring ridiculously well-arranged techno tunes and one hell of a credits song.
And one of the games that I believe only existed in my childhood collection, Legendary Wings for the NES was a pretty original game. You play as an angel(or two, in simultaneous co-op) in a vertical scrolling shooter, defeating the forces of the devil. The songs were minimalistic in their instrumentation and length, having been forced to fit the limits of the NES, but WOW, did they crank out the tunes.
I'm in love with most Square music, and Golden Sun owns me.
Worst music in a game: for me? I actually like the music from just about every game I've played...EXCEPT for Star Ocean 3. I'm so-so on Motoi Sakuraba's work, and very few of the tracks were memorable to me. Audio filler, in my opinion. But then again, I was never a fan of random techno-jazz, which Sakuraba can't seem to get enough of.
But SO3's Influence of Truth Appearance is another story altogether^.^
I recently finished Final Fantasy XII, and I must say, I was slightly disappointed by the music. It's great while you're listening to it, but the problem is that the mood of the songs progress and diminish rapidly, like a lot of orchestral works, but some of the songs are just straight uncomfortable to listen to!
But there was this one part in the final battle song, about 3 minutes in or something like that, where all the horns played a short reference to the main theme, and I instantly paused the game and waited another three minutes just to hear it again. I'm a bit of a music geek, but hot damn was that a powerful movement.
