Nintendo's press conference ended just about twenty minutes ago. In it they discussed the Wii a bit.
They said that the Wii never sleeps. By that I mean..even when you think it's "off" it still has just enough juice to stay connected to the internet and download patches/updates/messages from the web. Why? For example, in Animal Crossing you may find that "a friend has come and visited and left you a message or a present while you were asleep."
They also showed off how the controller works on stage. While I had previously read about how it worked (someone described it pretty well on another board) this is the first broadcasted example of it working live. They used a Tennis game. Basically you swing the controller as if it was a racket and it actually captures the motion and how hard you're swinging it to determine how to hit the ball (or miss the ball if you have horrible reflexes).
They also mentioned that the "Virtual Console" portion of the Wii [i.e. the emulated parts] will be able to load within two or three seconds. Basically he mentioned how much he hates the long load times for games, especially since he's a "busy man" and one of the things they wanted to do was to try and lower the load times. He didn't say anything about the Wii games, just the virtual console and how it'll load quickly.
And that's about all I caught (I didn't see the entire conference). I'm sure Gamespot or some other site will have more information.

Starting to think we should have made a generic E3 topic and put all of this into that (including the Sony stuff). I found this elsewhere. Don't know how long it'll be up or how long before Nintendo goes and changes the password.. but if you're lucky enough to get in, there's a lot of stuff for the press, including high quality artwork scans and trailers/clips of the games. press.nintendo.com/e32k6/index.html -- username is "media" and password is "E32006" Check it out.

Yay. I think I know why Nintendo changed the name.. they found out how stupid the other two are being, and said you know what, We can call this thing something completely idiotic, and still sell it like crazy. With the Ps3 at $600, and the 360 at $400, I think I'll be buying a Wii, even if it does sound like genetalia.

I think Nintendo changed the name to Wii just to get free press. Think about it. When they announced it EVERY gamer who's interested in the next gen consoles (and some who aren't) began TALKING about it. Even if 99% of the people who first heard it started laughing about it, most people now accept it and think it's "pretty cool."
And yeah.. they're going to clean house this fall.

Maybe they'll pull something, maybe they won't. I think Sony's only hope of beating Nintendo in sales of the next gen console is to lower the price of their machine. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've heard people say that PS3 will come last due to their insane price scheme. Nintendo was the clear winner at E3. Did you see the video of the line that was lined up for a chance to see/play the Wii? Some people at the end of the line would have wait over SIX HOURS and they were still willing to do it. The video of the line. It's crazy.

It's coming in November! WOoo! No Ethernet ports though, so it'll have to be wireless. I find that kind of weird. You'd think for a machine that "never sleeps" you'd have an ethernet port so you could just keep it connected full time. Weird. Ah well. Still the cheapest of the consoles and will probably be the most popular for awhile.

Yeah, I'll get the Wii first most likely, though I'll wait a few months or so to get it.

A rumor that the Wii will now be able to play Commodore 64 games in the virtual console.
HOLY CRAP!!11111oneoneoenoeeoeon
If true.. I REALLY want a Wii! Because that'd be amazing. I loved the C64. I still had one in Portales, too, before I was basically forced to sell it before moving to Florida. Anyway, I still play a few games in the emulator. It'd be awesome to be able to play those on a big TV again.
