Well, this was the first movie I saw this year, and if this is the standard for all future movies to follow this year, I going to be sadly disapointed...
Having found a new appreciation for comedy movies as of late, I figured anything that spoofed the movies I did like had to be good.. sadly I figured wrong.
First off, here's a list of the movies that Epic Movie spoofed and in some odd way tried to tie together...
X-men
Superman
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
The Chronicles of Narnia
Snakes On A Plane
Nacho Libre
The Davinci Code
Pirates Of The Carribean: 2
Click
Harry Potter
Im sure Im missing one or two somewhere in there.. but as you can see, it was definately an odd mix. It just seemed that it was a bunch of random and nonsensical stuff from start to finish, and yeah, I half expected that, but it just didn't fit together as well as say the parodies in Date Movie did or even the Scary Movies.. It just seemed to lack a theme other than "Lets make fun of random movies and have a half assed plot. While making almost all of our jokes having something to do with hip hop culture thus alienating half of our target audience. "
Don't get me wrong though, there were a few chuckle moments in the movie, but it just gets old the third or fourth time when every character on screen just randomly bursts into a gangster rap montoage. Do I really care if the Pirates of the Carribean have to rap while they swab the deck (also constantly having random "pirate" product placement.) No..
In my opinion, if you MUST see this movie, at least wait for it to hit video.. its not worth the money you pay to see it in theatres. Otherwise avoid it completely.
Good: Some funny spots! The whole fight scene with the Lion and the guy from Davinci Code was kinda funny (maybe only because the stunt people were so obvious, and yeah I understand that that was on purpose.)
Bad: Lame jokes, longwinded nonsensical sequences (the whole MTV cribs bit was waaaay too long.) Constant repitition of a single joke throughout the movie. Story that was concieved by a sixth grader who watches too many movies, Way too numerous Gangster rap montages. (even during the credits..) Oh and BORAT REFRENCE!! Aaaaaaaigh my eyes!!
What The?!: Scary lathered up half naked fat men in Gangster Rap montages, as well as Mystiques Uni Brow and Saggy Grandma arms.
All in all.. run.. far.. far away.. unless you like this sorta thing... then..stay away til its released on DVD or better yet comes on Tv for free.
