Okay I already reviewed the movie, now its time for the game.
Like any hollywood blockbuster, a game was a sure thing from the get go. More or less you know the story so I wont bother. Straight to the likes and dislikes.
Likes: Similar story to the movie, but not so much that its a direct rip off. Lots of new stuff, Mysterio, Rhino, Black Cat all make for some interesting side stuff. Addictive gameplay (kept me up all last night argh..) a Grand Theft Auto like system of gameplay, you can go anywhere do anything (well anything it lets you do.) Voice actors from the film make it neat as well. Upgradeable Spidey is neat as well. Bruce Campbell is in it again and there are some Evil Dead references as well. Yay!
Dislikes: The graphics are nice but I feel they could be tons better. there seem to be about 4 or 5 missions that you can do repeatedly asked by the same awful looking new york citizens cut and pasted each time to bug the hell out of you. A bit repetitive. And the designers screwed up J. Jonah Jameson's character as well as Mary Janes so that they look retarded and unlike their movie or comic book counterparts. Sometimes Spider-Man looks flat against the background (especially when standing next to Black Cat.) but really all these gripes are minor.
This game is fun, a good bit more than the first, all it needs now is a graphical upgrade and some more varied side missions. I mean how many times do I have to save the construction worker from falling off the building? or stop the carjacker? It seems all the crooks forgot about burning down buildings, snatching purses, robbing banks or anything else but stealing cars and holding up armored cars. Come on. And is everyone in new york out to commit suicide? I can't go 5 minutes without saving the same cut and paste construction guy from falling, or taking the injured guy/girl to the hospital.
anyway, its still an addictive and fun game
I give it 4 dead rabbit heads out of 5.
